Gazebo wins joint Jaguar Award

The 'Safe Night Out' project, a collaboration between Oceana Night Club, Gazebo Theatre and Deansfield High School has won the 'Marketing Birmingham Youth Award' at the recent Jaguar Awards Ceremony held at Birmingham Town Hall.

The prestigious award was presented to representatives of the collaborative team by actress Sheila Hancock and ITV arts reporter Nina Nannar, in an awards ceremony that celebrates the best partnerships between business and the arts.

Pamela Cole-Hudson, Gazebo's Strategic Director represented the company at the event:

"We were delighted to be presented with this award for the 'Safe Night Out' project, which has been a very exciting creative partnership for all those involved.

The project involved the delivery of a series of 'Safe Night Out' workshops within the 'real life' setting of Oceana Nightclub. Pupils visited the club and saw and discussed scenarios including a woman's drink being spiked, an accidental stabbing and women taking drugs in the toilets, all performed by local, professional actors and facilitated by local agencies. These led up to the official taking over of the club by pupils from eight schools, in a fantastic night of live music and a dance off!

The event involved more than 1000 pupils and a number of Midlands based professional arts practitioners and companies."

Gazebo Theatre would also like to extend their congratulations to the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre who won an award for 'W' Factor, a drama project for young people based on the work of the children's laureate, Jacqueline  Wilson developed in conjunction with Gazebo.
